Educational Facilities
The Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute is investing significant resources to open and operate new instructional facilities in a number of countries. This commitment also includes underwriting costs for healthcare professionals to attend these training centres, including travel and accommodation.
However, in some countries, legal and regulatory requirements may prevent us from paying such costs on behalf of attending healthcare professionals.
The first centre opened in Japan in October 2007, followed by the U.S. facility in February 2008 and another in China in July 2008. The Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute in Paris began pilot training schemes in June 2008 - and is the first of what is hoped will be many in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
Future plans also call for expanded reach within countries and across the globe via distance learning offerings. Eventually, the graduation of uniquely skilled professionals will provide an opportunity for a global network of alumni, who link through the Institute and share information and insights on diabetes care.
Japan
The Japanese facility is located in Tokyo and features a four-tiered, university approach - with beginning, intermediate, advanced and masters' courses, reflecting the desire among Japanese CDEs for current and consistent training and education.
North America
The Silicon Valley facility is located in Milpitas, California. A two-day intensive course is offered twice a week and covers training on the standards of care for diabetes treatment, the use of insulin pump therapy, blood glucose management software solutions, reimbursement, innovative practice and chronic care models, patient communication and family dynamics.
China
The Chinese facility is located in Beijing and reflects the country's hospital-driven healthcare system and the focus on establishing and utilising blood glucose management practices and guidelines.
Europe, the Middle-East and Africa.
The facility for Europe, the Middle-East and Africa is located in central Paris in dedicated facilities. Courses currently offered are on Therapeutic Patient Education.
